Watch this! It get’s really ‘good’ at about 47 seconds… So today we got the roof going. We ran into a slight snag in our original plan to make a hoop house out of the PVC. We decided to just frame out the roof, this way we can actually put a hard poly roof on in the future without to much manipulation. Our new systems arrive tomorrow, along with a dump truck load of rock for the floor of the greenhouse. The NFT on the back porch is looking good! Got some new starts put in the system this week. We started them from seed about 2 weeks ago.
So today was a pretty good day. We finished putting up the top braces and the boards to hold in the floor. The decision was made that the sides are going to open up in every section (every 10ft) so that we can pull the gullies out and easily harvest! Now for the fun and games….plantman will attest, this was one of the funniest moments in a while. So my talented self was lowering myself down from the dock into my kayak. The kayak flew out from under me and I some how grabbed the dock ledge, hands behind me, face touching the water, the very front of the kayak was at about my chest…plantman had to come over and let me stabilize myself on his kayak so that I could sit my clumsy self down. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Rocky lost my cell phone while we were kayaking, so now I am without cellular. Rocky also managed to bust up plantman’s laptop, so he can no longer compute. Rocky, you are a mad man! I will update this post with pics once I get them off the camera. To conclude the evening of debachery, plantman and I made a bad ass salad supplied by the raised bed gardens! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! So it is 1 week later and we’ve about got our greenhouse framed out and the NFT is doing awesome! We should be ready to harvest in a week or 2. The greenhouse should be complete with poly roof, screened in, with 4 NFT’s rockin’, by the end of next week! The NFT in the photo is 4-5 weeks along. On the bottom is some red fire lettuce, in the middle is mesclun mix, and on top is basil. The last three pics are from the raised bed gardens in the front lawn.
Meet Rocky the resident farm boxer, he spends most of his time playing keep away and testing produce on the farm. His favorite is the Lemon Grass. Check back regularly to see what he is getting into, you never know what he will do next….. ![]() Rocky going to town on some organic eggplant! Here is our first raised bed garden made from donated wood. First planted on 9/11/2009 and should have ripe tomatoes in a few weeks! Not bad for about four weeks in the ground. Thanks to Thomas for donating the wood and Matt for helping with construction. I owe you guys some produce! |
